Now that COVID-19 pandemic restrictions are being lifted in many places, people are raring to get out of the house. One healthy and productive way to do so is to attend a group fitness class.
The reality is that many Americans should be looking for some way to get healthier right now. One poll by the American Psychological Association found that 42% of respondents had gained weight during the pandemic. The poll also shows that people who gained weight gained an average of 29 pounds.
Small-group fitness classes are one effective way to start attacking the weight you’ve gained during the pandemic. There are several classes that may be especially beneficial for many people.
Three small-group fitness classes that can help you shed your COVID pounds:
- Kettlebell classes — Kettlebells are different from the typical hand weights. For one thing, they look like cannonballs with handles. Fitness class creators tend to use kettlebells for several reasons, including:
- Kettlebells are often easier to use during complex exercise movements.
- Most people have to pay closer attention to their stability while using kettlebells, which means that each exercise you do with them can also help your balance.
- Using kettlebells makes it easier to work on both strength and cardio conditioning in the same workout.
- TRX® suspension training classes — The TRX Suspension Trainer© is a set of straps that have handholds. These straps can easily attach to a sturdy overhead object, like a ceiling beam, or to a stable wall hook. Fitness classes love this system because it allows you to get a great workout from body weight and gravity without lots of equipment. These classes are great for building core strength. They can also benefit your flexibility, joint stability and balance.
- Boot camps — Military boot camps are designed to improve the recruit’s whole-body strength, flexibility and endurance. Boot camp fitness classes are designed to meet similar goals even though they’re much shorter. The workouts in these classes are high intensity. The coaches who run them can help you figure out how to warm up properly and train smarter.
